The Social Media Lab represents an experiment developed with the students of the Economia Aziendale & Smart Tourism bachelor and masters’ degree that aims at demonstrating how sustainable tourism represents today a key decision-making factor for travellers from everywhere in the world and how the businesses in the hospitality segment should focus their investments and marketing efforts – especially online – on promoting sustainable tourism. Along with the students, we discussed the topic of sustainability within the travel & tourism industry and some of the most interesting initiatives that key stakeholders – digital platforms, OTAs, hotels, restaurants and attractions – are running. This approach gave the students the opportunity to work on projects leveraging the topics they care the most, as long as they are encapsulated within the broader sustainable tourism area. The class started their work with a set of presentations and will wrap up the lab by creating podcasts in which every working group will discuss the findings of their research and will interview external guests that will share their sustainable tourism experience.
